Dr. Eric Hess

Dr. Eric Hess: Minister of Community Engagement (he/him)

Eric was drawn to this role because of its deeply intergenerational and multifaceted nature. He oversees programs for children, youth, and families and fosters meaningful connections with the wider community of all ages. Most of his career has been in academia, where he has served as a practitioner, researcher, and professor. His expertise centers on social justice and LGBTQ+ issues in the church and Christianity.

Eric is the author of In Search of Authentic Queer Worship and the forthcoming Queer Liturgy Between the Margins: Lessons for an Authentic Church on Ash Wednesday and Pentecost.

Outside of his work, Eric is fueled by coffee, travel, a love of food and adventurous baking (though he rarely is successful). He thrives as a super-extrovert. He and his partner, Brok, are obsessed with their rescue pit bulls (and rescuing dogs in general), in addition to exploring the area for the best and most novel foods.
